"Disabled Women's Society" Public Union is successfully continuing implementation of the project "Improving access of women and girls with disabilities to public services in Baku, Ganja and Guba-Khachmaz region" with the financial support of the UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women.
 
With the support of the project, the next seminar was organized in Baku on November 08-09, 2024 and had an interesting composition of participants. Community members, women and girls with disabilities participated in this seminar.

Objective of the workshop:
To meet local community members and discuss ways to eliminate discrimination cases and the importance of their communities' support in relation to attitudes and behavior towards women and girls with disabilities and violence against them in public spaces.
Mahluga Rahimova, chairwoman of the "Disabled Women's Society" Public Union, opened the seminar and gave detailed information to the participants about the successful strategy of the project.
At the seminar, trainer Irada Rizazadeh's presentation on increasing the activity of women and girls with disabilities in public places for using public services aroused the interest of the participants. Miriyeva Lamiya, a student of the Western Caspian University, who participated in the seminar, was active in attracting volunteers.
Suggestions for the participation of young people with disabilities in English language courses, support for their education, increasing the activities of communities, and increasing participation of women and girls with disabilities in support programs were brought up by volunteer students. The trainer promoted the methodologies of raising awareness in the field of organizing psychological support, employment and legal assistance to women and girls with disabilities with the participation of local communities. Members of community groups representing various areas of Baku, as well as relatives and friends of women and girls with disabilities participated in the seminar.

The seminar led to interesting discussions with the participation of representatives of local communities formed in Baku and women with disabilities.
Trainer Irada Rizazade gave information about disability, which is the main focus of the seminar, stereotypes and wrong behaviors towards women and girls with disabilities in society. Women and girls with disabilities put forward interesting proposals for solving the problems they face and talked about the directions of support for them. Discussions were held about the works done with the support of the implemented project and to be done in this field, their importance, and ways to solve the problems. The problems faced by women and girls with disabilities in their families related to domestic violence were brought up, and the importance of ensuring their rights and supporting them by communities was emphasized.
The goal of the project is to improve accessibility and quality of public services for women and girls with disabilities from low-income families, including internally displaced families.
The project covers the cities of Baku, Ganja and the regions of Guba, Gusar, Khachmaz and is implemented during the period of September 2022 - August 2025 (36 months in total).
The UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women (UN Trust Fund) is the only global grantmaking mechanism dedicated exclusively to addressing all forms of violence against women and girls.
