The event was held within the framework of the project “Improving Access to Public Services for Women and Girls with Disabilities in Baku, Ganja, Qusar, Quba, and Khachmaz districts”, implemented by the “Disabled Women Society” Public Union with the financial support of the UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women (UN Trust Fund).
At the meeting, which took place in the Goygol Youth House, participants discussed the protection of the rights of women and girls with disabilities, public attitudes towards them, mechanisms of social support, and the prevention of domestic violence. The main objective of the event was to emphasize the importance of supporting this group within society and to explore ways to eliminate discrimination. The roundtable brought together Deputy Head of the Goygol District Executive Authority, Head of the Department of Socio-Political and Humanitarian Issues Ms. Kamala Ibrahimova, as well as representatives of local municipalities and state institutions – including employment services, health and social protection agencies, educational institutions, NGOs, and community members. During the discussions, participants delivered presentations and exchanged views on the topic. Specific proposals were voiced regarding the establishment of support groups for women with disabilities, strengthening inter-community networking, and enhancing social integration and solidarity.
The “Disabled Women Society” Public Union stressed that such events, when held regularly across the regions, contribute significantly to amplifying the voices of women and girls with disabilities and ensuring the protection of their rights. The UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women (UN Trust Fund) is the only global grant- making mechanism dedicated exclusively to addressing all forms of violence against women and girls.
The project covers the cities of Baku and Ganja, and the districts of Quba, Qusar, and Khachmaz, and is being implemented from September 2022 to August 2025 (36 months in total).
A total of 35 participants took part in the roundtable.
